The Loft Review - 4/10
This movie was shot back in 2011 but wasn't released until this past year. That usually isn't a good omen for a movie but the premise intrigued me so I gave it a shot. Needless to say I should've skipped it.
The plot is simple, a group of 5 men share a loft so they can cheat on their wives and do whatever else they want to. The only rules are 1. No one else but the 5 can know and 2. They must tell the others when the loft is in use so to not have an accidental meet up. Right from the beginning the dilemma occurs as one of the men show up to the loft to find a dead girl lying in bed. From there all 5 men show up and the movie takes off.
Throughout the movie we are switched between the past and how the loft became to be, and the present in which the five of them try to figure out who did this and why. The biggest problem however, is that none of these five characters are likeable. They all cheat and lie to their wives and to each other. The wives and the mistresses aren't likeable either, so when we go back in time it's not interesting.
When we do finally find out everything, the first twist was good and I thought that this wasn't such a waste of time. But it wasn't finished and they added another twist, which just added to the disappointment. The overall idea was good but the execution wasn't there. 4/10

Chappie
Chappie Review - 7/10
I'm not sure where to begin my review for this Sci/fi movie. All I know is that after watching it I can recommend it.
Set in the near future where robots are part of the police force, the guy who invented the robots has found something new in his research. He's found out how to create a robot who can think for itself. Series of events lead him to getting abducted by a group of gangsters who believe that he can simply turn a switch and make the robots help them into robbing a bank.
This all leads to him activating "Chappie", our main robot. Chappie learns from actions of who is around him. There are some comedic parts during these scenes as he acts like a gangster and starts to talk slang. The problem was two of the three gangsters were not the best of actors. Apparently they are part of a South African rap group.
Throughout the film you start to feel for this robot and when the climax starts you notice that Chappie has changed the way these gangsters think. They care for him too and try their best to help him. I will say some scenes in the end are a bit cliche, but the resolution to what happens in the end was clever. I think the last 25 minutes or so are very entertaining and really tie everything together. A solid 7/10.

Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect 2 Review - 5/10
The first Pitch Perfect was a pleasant surprise. It didn't do the big box office numbers this one is making. It seemed like they tried way too hard with a plot that wasn't necessary. This was your typical Hollywood sequel that they made purely for money purposes. While I did laugh more often than not, it didn't have the the spark of the first film.
The plot is put into motion because "Fat Amy" has a wardrobe malfunction performing in front of the President. The Barden Bellas are suspended because of it and the only way to get reinstated is if they win the "World Championships". Other than that, there's not much conflict besides a little debacle between the group. There was a character of Latino decent in which she only said things terrible about the race. Sure some of them were funny, but I found most of her performance annoying.
Another thing is, while talented, Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy) shouldn't be on screen as much as she should. The reason she was so good in the first one was because she had the right amount of screen time. She was essentially the second lead this time around and it was too much for me.
The 2 commentators in the film are back and really are just there to make terrible jokes about women, race and anything else. I enjoyed it, but because it doesn't come close to the original I can't really recommend it. It's just an OK film.

Oldboy
Oldboy Review - 8/10
I heard countless times how good of a movie this was from critics and fans alike. I watched a preview for it and what I saw was an action movie. While there is a few action scenes (one in particular that was beautifully shot) this is by no means an action movie. There are some cringe worthy moments of torture but it all works and not over done. Most of it happens on screen and you only hear what happens.
The plot is about a man who was kept under watch in the same room for 15 years. He is released out of the blue and has vowed to find out who and why this was done to him. He meets a young girl named "Mi-do" and they quickly find a sense compassion and love towards one another.
As the story unfolds we learn about who and why. When we the audience find out the reason I was blown away. Not since I watched the first "Saw" movie did I feel so shocked. It was one of the most brilliant twists I've ever witnessed and made me feel for the character even more because of it.
I haven't watched the American remake and don't intend to after the horrible reviews and plot changes I read about. If you're a fan of movies and don't mind subtitles, I highly recommend this one.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Avengers: Age of Ultron Review 9/10
I've never read a comic book or graphic novel in my life. But the way
that Marvel has brought this universe together is fantastic and I'm
enjoying the ride. I don't care if the hardcore fans criticize it for
not following or staying true to the comics. This movie was
entertaining from beginning to end.
It's a pretty simple plot. A robot or AI gone bad named Ultron wants to
destroy the world. The Avengers need to stop him. Nothing complicated
about it. There is plenty of action and quick one liners to keep the
mood light hearted. I've seen others complain about the fact there are
so many different characters but it worked for me. They were all
interesting and have stories of their own.
Plain and simple, if you are a fan of the Marvel movies this won't
disappoint. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Wedding Ringer
The Wedding Ringer Review - 4/10
Kevin Hart is one of my favorite stand up comedians. As far as his films are concerned, the only one I can think of that I liked was "Think like a Man" and "Ride Along."
The premise is simple, Kevin Hart's character runs a business and pretends to be a grooms best man. He has a variety of different packages for sale. In this particular case, our groom purchases the "Golden Tux" package. He must bring together 7 groomsmen as well as attend and help with the wedding preparations.
Josh Gad plays the groom to be and I've always found him funny but here he doesn't bring to the table what I expected. While he has some funny lines and a bit of physical comedy, he wasn't up to par from what I've seen previously.
The story plays out very predictable and while the characters aren't unlikeable, they aren't really people you care about. Having no expectations and still not feeling very entertained I can only give this movie a 4/10.
