Whiplash Review 10/10
First things first, after watching this film it has instantly taken a
spot in my top 10 favorite films of all time. From the opening scene to
the grand finale, you're attention will be focused on nothing else but
this movie. I'm bummed that I didn't watch this sooner.
A young drummer is going to school at the top music school in the
country. But the main goal is to be in one particular teacher's band.
J.K. Simmons is that teacher and without a doubt gives the best
performance of his career so far. He's very intense, some would say too
intense, but he knows what he knows and is the best for a reason and
throughout the movie he proves time and again why everyone in that
school wants to play for him.
Andrew is the young drummer played by Miles Teller. He's likable and
has that drive to be the best. He definitely put in the work to make
this believable. My favorite scenes are with Andrew and Fletcher (the
teacher) and the back and forth between the two. It was also quite
funny with the insults that were thrown out by Fletcher as the teacher.
It almost felt like a sports film but instead of a coach and athlete,
its a teacher and his student.
I think this film brings up a few questions about life such as, how far
is too far when it comes to teacher and student? How hard are you
willing to go to get what you want? And is it worth it? Plain and
simple this is a movie I think anyone involved in music should watch as
well as anyone who enjoys awesome films. A perfect 10/10
